Always shop with confidence at David Jones

Shopping with confidence – it’s what we know you want.

When you shop with David Jones, you enjoy confidence – the confidence of knowing that if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can simply return it to any David Jones store (within the original country of purchase) and we will provide you with an exchange, refund or repair within the guidelines outlined below.

This policy applies to all purchases made from David Jones, online or instore.

Proof of Purchase

Please note that all returns, refunds, exchanges or repair requests must be accompanied by any of the following Proof of Purchase documents:

  • Original register receipt (no photocopies accepted)
  • Proof of Purchase (included with all online purchases and Click & Collect)
  • Original return/exchange receipt
  • David Jones Storecard statement
  • David Jones American Express Card statement
  • David Jones American Express Platinum Card statement

Change of mind

If you have changed your mind about your purchase, David Jones will be pleased to offer you a refund or exchange provided that:

  • You have produced satisfactory Proof of Purchase; and
  • The item is in a saleable condition (i.e. the original tags and labels are still attached, the item is in its original packaging (if any), and the item is unworn, unused and as sold); and
  • The item is not a Special Exception (see below):

If you are unable to provide satisfactory Proof of Purchase, David Jones may, in its absolute discretion, provide you with an exchange to the current value of the item, provided that:

  • The item is in a saleable condition (i.e. the original tags and labels are still attached, the item is in its original packaging (if any), and the item is unworn, unused and as sold); and
  • We can verify that the item was originally purchased from David Jones; and
  • The item is not a Special Exception (see below); and
  • Satisfactory Identification is presented at the time of the return. David Jones will accept:
    • A current Drivers Licence, including Learners permit with photograph
    • Proof of Age card that is approved by the Government with photograph and signature within the seal
    • Blind Citizens Card with photograph
    • Australian, New Zealand or International Passport
    • Police, Government or Armed Services sealed identification card with photograph and signature within the seal
    • Pension cards for aged, invalid widows, supporting parents and carers; or
    • David Jones American Express, David Jones American Express Platinum or David Jones Storecard with signature on the reverse as satisfactory identification

In the circumstance where you are unable to exchange an item, subject to authorisation from a David Jones Manager, David Jones may in its absolute discretion provide you with a David Jones Returns Card to the current value of the item.

Special Exceptions

30 Day Change of Mind Returns

Please choose carefully as we only offer exchange or refund for Change of Mind on the following items within 30 days of purchase. These Special Exceptions do not apply to any returns made in accordance with Consumer Guarantees (see below), or otherwise as required by law.

          Consumer guarantees

          As a consumer, you are entitled to the benefit of statutory consumer guarantees in respect of items or services purchased from David Jones. If you believe an item or services is faulty, not of acceptable quality, does not match the description provided or is not fit for purpose, you may be entitled to a remedy under the Australian or New Zealand Consumer Law. However these consumer guarantees do not apply where the item was damaged due to abnormal use or misuse. Where you believe an item is faulty, it may be necessary for us to send the item to the manufacturer or their service agent for it to be assessed. In accordance with Australian or New Zealand Consumer Law, if the failure is minor, we may repair the item (or, at our discretion, we may replace the item or refund you) within a reasonable time. If the item or service has a major failure, you may reject it and seek a refund or replacement, or you may keep the item and seek compensation for any drop in the value. These consumer guarantees apply to items or services and may be impacted by the type and age and nature of the item.

          Gift Cards/Bonus Items/Bundled Items

          If you return an item that was sold with a bonus Gift Card or items included with purchase, all items and elements of any bundled purchase, must also be returned with the original purchase. If you do not return all of the bonus or bundles items or Gift Cards, the value of any such unreturned Gift Card, bonus or bundled item or utilised portion of any Gift Card will be deducted from any refund.

            Return Locations

            The quickest and easiest way to return a product, whether purchased online or instore is to go to any David Jones store (within the original country of purchase). 

            For products purchased online in Australia, you may also return the item by sending it to:

            Please include your completed Return Slip on the back of your Proof of Purchase with your items. An Online Customer Relations Assistant will call you to process your return once the items have been received. David Jones will not reimburse postage costs for returned items unless the item is returned in accordance with Consumer Guarantees.

            Gift Registry Returns

            To return items purchased from a Gift Registry, an appointment must be made with a Gift Registry Consultant so that they can provide you with the information required to facilitate your return. To make an appointment please contact your original Gift Registry location. All Gift Registry returns will be managed in line with this Return Policy.

            Payment Method

            For all purchases made via Membership Rewards Points, PayPal and David Jones Gift Cards, we will provide a refund to a David Jones Returns Card that can be used instore and Online Davidjones.com.au.

            AfterPay returns will be processed as follows:

            • For items returned via the fulfilment centre, we will process the refund via AfterPay. Any future payments for that item and/or any instalments you have paid will be processed in accordance with Afterpay’s terms and conditions, available on the Afterpay website https://www.afterpay.com/en-AU/terms (Afterpay Terms)
            • For items returned in-store, a David Jones Returns Card will be issued (unless otherwise required under Australian Consumer Law). 
            • For customers that wish to return a product 120 days or more after the purchase date, we will provide any agreed refund onto a credit card or debit card issued in the name of the purchaser (with identification) or a David Jones Returns Card. In these circumstances, you will still remain liable to Afterpay for the full payment of the item, in accordance with the Afterpay Terms.

            For all other purchases, David Jones will refund using your original payment method, or, where appropriate and at David Jones’ sole discretion, on a David Jones Returns Card.
